LSC's quarterly report on the Lithuanian securities market, Q1 2007

According to the data of 31 March 2007, there were 78 issuers registered as accountable to the Securities Commission (504 as of 31 December 2006). The reason for the decrease in the number of the issuers under the supervision of the LSC is the coming into effect of the new Law on Securities that essentially modified the concept of the issuer.
During Q1, 51 bond issues were distributed in the primary corporate debt securities market the total nominal value whereof reached LTL 1.51 bn (21 bond issues during the corresponding quarter of the previous year with the value of LTL 1.38 bn).
During Q1, 2007 the market capitalisation increased by 2 percent (from LTL 30.0 m to LTL 30.5). The gross OMX Vilnius index during the quarter increased by 0.18 percent, and the total Stock Exchange turnover decreased from LTL 4.72 bn to LTL 1.4 bn.
During the period the Securities Commission approved the circulars of 6 takeover bids intended to purchase the securities of the issuer. 8 takeover bids were implemented at the Stock Exchange of which in 5 cases the takeover bids were responded by the shareholders. 30.14 percent of the securities offered have been purchased and the shareholders were disbursed LTL 370.16 m.
As of 31 March 2007, the investment services in Lithuania were provided by 12 financial brokerage firms and 9 divisions of commercial banks providing investment services.
During Q4, 2006, holders of licences to distribute investment units in the Lithuanian collective investment undertakings market included: 1 investment company with variable capital, 28 investment funds, 46 foreign investment funds. Pension accumulation companies were managing 30 pension funds accumulating part of the State social insurance contributions (2nd pillar), management companies continued to operate 6 supplementary voluntary pension accumulation funds (3rd pillar). As of the end of the accounting period 12 management companies were operating in the market.
As of the accounting date 285 financial brokerage licence holders were operating in the Lithuanian securities market, including 155 licensed as general financial brokers, 100 holders of the financial broker-consultant licenses, and 30 persons holders of broker-trader licences.
